Hi, my name is Ashvik Mandhani. I’m a student at GEMS Wellington International School and the founder of the SecondStitch initiative. Sustainability has always been close to my heart - we only have one planet, and it’s our responsibility to protect it. Through SecondStitch, my goal is to reduce textile waste, promote conscious fashion, and be part of a movement that creates real change.

My name is Adityaa, and I’m currently a student at GEMS Wellington International School. I’m also the co-founder of SecondStitch. My interest in sustainability was sparked by my passion for clean-up scuba diving, where I saw the impact of pollution on our oceans. I believe we only have one planet and one chance to protect it, so we must act now. Through SecondStitch, my goal is to make a difference in our community and contribute to a better future.

Our Mission

At Second Stitch, we are committed to redefining sustainability in the fashion industry by transforming used school uniforms into new clothing. Our mission is to reduce textile waste, promote circular fashion, and foster a culture of conscious consumption among students and schools.

Who We Are

We are a student-led initiative based in Dubai, dedicated to addressing the growing issue of textile waste in schools. Every year, thousands of school uniforms are discarded, contributing to environmental pollution. Second Stitch aims to change this by collecting used uniforms, breaking them down into yarn, and giving them a second life as new garments.

What We Do

Uniform Collection – We collaborate with schools to organize collection drives, encouraging students to donate their old uniforms instead of discarding them.
Recycling & Upcycling – The collected uniforms are processed into reusable yarn, which is then used to create new clothing items.
Community Engagement – We run school competitions to incentivize participation, with the winning school receiving a charitable donation in its name.
Environmental Impact – By extending the lifecycle of fabrics, we help reduce landfill waste, lower carbon emissions, and conserve resources.

Why It Matters

The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global waste and pollution. School uniforms, designed for durability, often end up in landfills when students outgrow them. By repurposing these materials, Second Stitch not only reduces waste but also educates young minds on the importance of sustainable practices.
